New Orleans, was a city I’ve have always thought was the coolest place in the USA. This thought became a “Oh Yeah” in 2014. It was a business trip, but hey, after work, there is play.
I decided to go light, and pack only a fixed prime lens Nikon 35mm f1.8 DX, and the smallest DSLR body I had, the Nikon D3200. I did’nt want to lug camera bags and lenses, I wanted to enjoy my time, but wanted to walk away with high quality images too. A crop sensor camera would do fine.
I trusted my entire virgin New Orleans experience on the Nikon D3200 and the much talked about 35mm 1.8f DX prime lens. Now most people would opt for a walk around wide to zoom lens, because New Orleans is a city of life and you would want to capture everything you see, as there is no place on earth that you will find another city just like it.
Food, Jazz, Dance, Party, History, color, Music, Music, Music, entertaintment, and just joyfull living and expression.
Most of my wandering was at night after work, but that is when the City came alive anyways, and my favourite time to shoot images is at night. I could just taste the delicious images waiting to be captured.
What I saw, I could not imagine, what I experienced, and how I felt, lead me into new territory of my life story. Yes, it was every bit as coloful, soulful, and joyful, as I thought, but oh, how much more it was.
I stayed at the Marriot in the central downtown area of New Orleans, and only wanted to see the real city. So I made my way towards where I saw people going and coming from. The tram public transport is really cool in and around the city. I had fun riding it. I Jumped on and just went for the ride. I decided to jump of on the main road, and started walking, unknowingly being drawn like a magnet to where life was on another energy level.
